Lengthening Shadows

This photograph was taken at Wazir Khan Mosque in Lahore, Pakistan. It was time for the late afternoon prayer. The sun was just appearing through the top of the archway casting a shadow of the man as he walked through the portal and into the sanctuary of peace. The lengthening shadow symbolizes man’s eventual death and resurrection.

Sanctuary of Peace

I took this photograph while passing through the main entrance of Badshahi Masjid in Lahore, Pakistan.

Dark and Light

A photograph of the lower level of Lahore Fort beneath what all the tourists see. These rooms were used to escape the summer heat.

Diwan-e-Khass

The Diwan-e-Khass (private audience hall) is part of the Lahore Fort complex located in Lahore, Pakistan. Lahore Fort is made of white marble and was built in 1645 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. The photograph was taken about an hour before sunset, which made for an interesting outline of the dark interior columns and arches contrasting with the pinkish hue of the granite wall and columns in the background.

Mughal Splendor

The Naulakha Pavilion is a small rectangular building that was the summerhouse attributed to Shah Jahan. In the Urdu language, the word naulakha means 'worth 9 lakhs rupees' (or 900,000 rupees).

It's situated next to the Shish Mahal (Hall of Mirrors) in the northern section of Lahore Fort in Lahore, Pakistan. The pavilion, built in 1633, is built entirely of marble with a deeply curving roof in the Bengali tradition. The pietra dura ornamentation in the pavilion is considered among the finest in the world.

Painted Ladies

The famous "painted ladies" homes in San Francisco. The term is used for Victorian and Edwardian houses and buildings built between 1849 and 1915 painted in three or more colors that embellish or enhance their architectural details.
